CiLab at Mednight 2025

30 Sep, 2025 | Events

CiLab successfully participated in this year’s Mednight, opening its doors to schools in the morning and setting up a booth at Sappho Square in the heart of the town of Mytilene, in the evening. In the morning students from five schools had the opportunity to interact with NAO, the playful humanoid robot, discuss the different types of robots and their applications, even play a lively game of charades. They also experienced a less traditional form of painting, using VR goggles to create colorful strokes in 3D space.

In the evening, NAO once again captivated visitors with its enhanced capabilities, now connected to an AI language model that enabled natural, interactive conversations. A small robotic car also drew attention, as curious young learners explored the code that powered its actions. The VR goggles proved a hit with both children and adults alike, sparking excitement and curiosity across generations.

This year’s participation was powered by the dedication of CILab young researchers and students from the Department of Cultural Technology and Communication, under the guidance of the lab’s director, Prof. Kavakli. Their collective effort brought the activities to life and embodying Mednight’s mission to make science engaging, accessible, and inspiring for all.
