The purpose of this dissertation is to study and evaluate the role of Academic libraries in the modern Academic education model by understanding the information needs of the digital teaching group of the educational community, examining the type and extent of the use of their services, to identify the vulnerabilities in its overall infrastructure, and ultimately develop and implement modern library services.

The dissertation reflects the two aspects of educational reform: from the perspective of the knowledge provider (educational institution, organization, library, etc.) and from the perspective of the learner.

The concept of digital teaching is analyzed, and the impact of technological innovations on the overall educational process is highlighted. Methodologies for evaluating the overall operation of digital teaching within the framework of higher education institutions are provided. The extent and type of use of library services by the distance education community are presented, and additionally, the most important reasons why members of this community do not make extensive use of the provided library resources and services are discussed.

Furthermore, the infrastructure and functions that a modern academic library must possess to provide high-level services to students of digital education are examined.

Finally, the inseparable relationship and the necessity of cooperation between Greek academic libraries and educational organizations in the modern educational environment are highlighted, along with short-term/medium-term estimates of its progress and acceptance by the scientific and technological community.
